Division Series day 1 recap

The Games:
Santana and Zito delivered. Zito didn't have to face Frank Thomas like Santana and Jesse Crain did, thus the A's won 3-2. I'm a bit nervous about my Twins pick now, I'm not sure the rest of their pitching staff can overcome a Santana loss at home. As well as Zito pitched, the Twins batters gave him a lot of help, from what I understand.

Pujols hit a home run, Carpenter pitched well, Cardinals won 5-1. When I picked Padres in four, I assumed this would be the one that the Cards would win.

The Yankees are much better than the Tigers. Jeter intangibled his way to a 5-for-5 with a homer. It's a scary lineup that can bat Alex Rodriguez sixth and almost be justified in doing so (Damon, Jeter, Abreu, Sheffield, and Giambi filled the first five spots). Their middle relief is the scariest part of the team and threatened to let the Tigers back in, but never did. 8-4 Yanks

Ex-Pirate update:
Jason Kendall went 0-for-4 in his first playoff game ever with 2 Ks against Santana. He did throw out Luis Castillo at second base in the first inning. Why Castillo was running at that point with Zito struggling to find the strike zone in the first inning, I don't know.

Brian Giles fared a bit better by going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a double.

Sean Casey went 2-for-4 with an RBI in what was also his first playoff game ever, but played some crappy first base and was all around very slow.

The Tigers coaching staff was all present in Yankee stadium. Beyond that, who knows.

Tomorrow Esteban Loaiza joins the fray by starting for the A's.
