Pirates and Mets

No rest for the weary or the terrible, the Pirates head to New York tonight to face the Mets. On the bright side, Pedro Martinez will miss his start tonight with a sore hip. Darren Oliver will start in his stead tonight. He's old and he's been around forever, but he's off to a career start this year with his 2.45 ERA and 1.02 WHIP in 44 innings as a long reliever. We send one of our inconsistent young guys to the mound tonight with Paul Maholm, who was 11 when Oliver made his major league debut. Our best hope in this series? Dejan says it's for the Mets to get bored with their success.

UPDATE (7:20)- Apparently some dude named John Maine has been called up from the minors and will start instead of Pedro, not Darren Oliver. He's made one start for the Mets this year, against Washington on May 2nd when he gave up 4 runs in 5 and 1/3 and took the loss. Other than that, all I know is that he's not a rookie; he made 9 starts with Baltimore in '04 and '05.
