More on the draft

There's a couple more draft links I have to share. The first is Wilbur Miller's summary (via Bucs Dugout) of the first day. As everything on Wilbur's site is, it's very thorough. The words "reach" and "stretch" and "unlikely to sign" appear a little too much for my liking.

The second is a chat with Baseball America's Jim Callis about the first day. The Bucs/Brad Lincoln pop up twice in the chat. First he says that he would've first overall. I'm not sure if he means he was the best talent or most pro-ready, but it's certainly a good sign that skipping Miller wasn't necessarily a bad idea. The second question involves the Pirates first 7 or so picks as a whole, and Callis is a lot more upbeat about it than most of us Bucco fans are:

Jerry from STL asks:
The Pirates look like they got lucky with Lincoln falling to them; however, after that is there any reason to be optimistic about who they picked???????
Jim Callis: Sure. Mike Felix is one of the best lefties in the draft. Shelby Ford is better than is stats look, as he was horrible for the first half of the season. He can hit. Jared Hughes, Patrick Bresnehan and Jim Negrych were all very good in the Cape last summer, as were Alex Presley and Steve MacFarland.
It's entirely possible that we're too jaded to be objective about this. Unlike football, we can't really judge this draft class for another three years or so. Maybe it won't turn out to be so bad after all.
