Pirates 1 Cards 0

Without having the benefit of this game being on TV, I kept an eye on the gamecast last night while watching football and all I could think to myself the whole time the game was on was "When are the Cards going to score?" Chacon again walked more than he struck out (4-3) and put 8 people on base in 5 innings yet somehow didn't give up a run. He only got 49 of his 90 pitches across for strikes, so mostly I'd call his effort last night "lucky." Capps and Torres came in and pitched two innings apiece with Torres picking up the save despite putting four guys on in his two innings and facing Albert Pujols as the go-ahead run with two down in the seventh. All in all, we somehow managed to win a 1-0 game despite being outhit 8-6. This was what I was talking about with my "lucky rather than good" post on Thursday.

How close were we to losing last night? Well, here's the Win Expectacy chart, courtesy of Fan Graphs. Note how most of the time, the little green line is on the Cardinals side of things.
