I'm baaaack

After a week in Phillies country, I've returned to Westeren PA. I was pretty much shut off from Pirates news while I was gone, with only USA Today and the local paper's blurbs and boxscores to go by (BBTN doesn't usually show Pirates/Rockies highlights, stunning). So what did I miss? Well, from what I could tell...

  • Brad Eldred's 1st, 2nd, and 3rd major league homers. Two of which came in Coors and Minute Maid, but hey, you've gotta start somewhere.
  • Duke going to 5-0, then having his first truly bad start of his career, against Houston last night. Sorry Paul Meyer, it's probably not time to induct him into the Hall just yet.
  • Now that Chris Duffy has overtaken Tike in center, he's the one coming down with mysterious "twinges" and "pulls" just like Freddy Sanchez did earlier in the year, and Tike is still playing three days a week or so. Either Duffy and Freddy are the two most fragile guys in the world or Lloyd just doesn't get it, NO ONE WANTS TO SEE TIKE REDMAN PLAY.
  • Rick White took two more losses out of the pen, both in games where we fell behind and fought back to tie/take the lead. Him and Mesa need to be on the first bus out of town. Together. Now.
  • Jody Gerut goes on the DL. No one is apparently surprised (except maybe Dave Littlefield, oops).
  • Snell got a start (because Kip had a hangnail or something) and pitched poorly. That's bad, because rookies that don't immediately perform don't play much here in Pittsburgh, building for the future be damned (he was good out of the pen last night though).
  • Hey, at least we went 7-3 against the Rockies this year.
That's all I got, I was barraged by all-TO all the time in South Jersey and it was hard to figure out if anything else in the sports world was actually happening (other than lifeguard races of course) so it's nice to be away from that, even if it means back to the Pirates.
