Game 2: Braves 10 Pirates 2

The first game of the season was something insane, something that none of us have ever seen before. The second game of the season, well, does any of the following sound familiar to you?

  • A young, unproven starter mostly shutting the Pirates down.
  • A complete lack of offense
  • A lackluster outing from the Pirates' starter
  • A complete implosion by the bullpen.
You know the feeling from this one, staring blankly at the TV every few seconds while working on other stuff, knowing that the runs probably wouldn't be coming and if they were, they probably wouldn't be enough anyways.

Anyways, some other observations from the game:
  • Sean Burnett probably kicked something when Evan Meek got rocked.
  • Like Snell on Monday, Gorzo didn't have his A game tonight. Like Snell on Monday, he still managed to keep us in the game.
  • What Neal Huntington should really be doing is finding a way to hypnotize Xavier Nady into thinking it's always the first week of the season. He rocked the first week last year and he's doing it again this year.
  • Damaso Marte looks like a different pitcher. His value is quickly deprecating. Just sayin'.
  • Against Jurrjens in his first big league start, we only drew one walk and struck out five times. Not a great moment in plate patience, especially against a guy that walks a fair amount of hitters.
  • Tyler Yates looked good again, though I'd like to see him do it against a team that he doesn't know everyone one .
  • This column is just ludicrous. We're two games into the season. Two games.
Actually, that's all. I've gotta say, though, we're definitely going to see another game (or a hundred) like this one before we see another one like Monday's.
