Game 53: Padres 4 Pirates 2

There are bad losses. And there are depressing losses. And then, there are games like tonight. Shawn Chacon turned the clock back to, Christ I dunno, Little League? I will assume Chacon dominated Little League in Alaska. Shawn Chacon turned the clock back to Little League and tossed seven dominant shut-out innings tonight, striking out ten batters, walking one, and only allowing three hits. And we lost. I didn't think Chacon had that kind of effort in him. I'll say it. I'm impressed. And we lost.

Who do you bring out of the pen on this team? Marte has been good, but he's pitched primarily as a LOOGY this year. Capps has been bad in May. Torres had been lights out in May, but he shit the bed tonight. We have the worst bullpen in the league right now and I don't think it's close. Did anyone think there was a chance to win this game after it went into the tenth tonight? Didn't think so. Guess how many hitters the bullpen struck out tonight. Here's a hint... ten less than Shawn Chacon.

So who do we blame? Everyone but Shawn Chacon, amusingly. The offense should've been able to muster more than one run against Greg Maddux. The bullpen should've been able to hold a two run lead over two freaking innings. Ugh.
