One final catch up

One final roundup of the things that I missed while I was gone:

Josh Sharpless goes on the DL and Britt Reames is called up. This is a shame for two reasons:

  1. Not only is Sharpless local, but he's actually kind of good. That makes him fun to root for even if he is a middle reliever.
  2. For some ungodly reason, Britt Reames was called up instead of Jonah Bayliss. Rheames is almost 33, doesn't really have great stuff, etc. I mean it's nice for him to get another shot, but seriously guys... come on.
From the same notebook, it turns out that not only was Shawn Chacon awful and about to be released, but he's also injured and he likely knew about it. If it was possible to make Dave Littlefield look even stupider for that trade, Chacon just did it. Victor Santos will start on Monday.

MLB released it's interleague schedule for 2007 and we play Seattle and the AL Central... again. Someone needs to fix this problem. Rowdy is working on it.

Jose Castillo has been benched in three of the Pirates past 4 games and he's confused by it. This is generally the problem with Castillo this year, he just doesn't get it. His defense is constantly subpar (which is maddening because it shouldn't be), his red-hot week in late May caused him to go back to his goal of hitting a homer in every at bat, and without uniform numbers I sometimes get him and Ronnie Paulino confused.
