Pirates 9 Tigers 2

Can't wait for the spin on this one, "The Pittsburgh Pirates have now won two of their last three games against the best two teams in baseball," is what I'd have my money on. All kidding aside, Gorzelanny apparently had a decent first start, especially given the opposition. The three walks aren't great, but six Ks and 6 hits with only two runs in five is a good place to start from. The pen held strong for a second straight night, with Capps, Torres, and Grabow giving four shutout innings to finish the win off. Without having seen the game, I would have to assume that the Tigers did a Pirates impersonation in the field with their five errors and six unearned runs. Still, I don't really think anyone would've given us much of a shot to take a win out of this series, and we at least get a shot at it tomorrow.

UPDATE (12:50 AM): I got to see bits and pieces of this one, I really liked what I saw from Gorzelanny. He put a lot of guys on base, but ranged from 92-97 pretty consistently with his fastball and mixed in the offspeed stuff nicely. He got squeezed by the umps a couple times and we played some bad defense behind him (shocking), and I think without that his line would've looked a little better. I'd expect the nerves to wear off for the next start, but I definitely liked what I saw tonight. And the Tigers... well they clearly drank a little too much of the PNC water because three errors on three plays is something that only we do.
