Mets 7 Pirates 5

I only saw a little bit of this one at the end, but something kind of jumped out at me from the box score. The Pirates left TWENTY SIX men on base tonight. That's pretty impressive. In fact, it's rather stunning. It's damn near impossible to win with 26 LOBs.

I didn't see Gorzo tonight, but it looks like struggled with his control quite a bit again. I talked to my dad a bit about the game, he said the strike zone was called very inconsistently, as in large for the Mets pitchers and not so large for the Pirate pitchers. Perhaps Salomon Torres accusing Angel Hernandez of losing a game and "abusing his power" earlier in the series had something to do with that. For anyone still counting, the Pirates are now 2-4 in the second half of the season, right on pace with their 27-54 first half.

UPDATE (9:09 AM): Oops, I was incredibly tired when I did this last night, the team LOB was 12. Twenty-six was the total LOB by everyone added together. You can ignore the first paragraph. Still, umm, 12 is pretty bad.
